This marks the second 'Games' set for the Cubs. Unlike the previous one, which featured the 'Sandberg game',1984 NLCS Game 1, Aug. 1, 1987, 1989 NLCS Game 2, Kerry Wood 20 strikeouts, Sammy Sosa 61st and 62nd home runs, Greg Maddux 300th Win and June 1, 2005, this set actually includes something outside the VHS era. The Sandberg Game finds it's way into the new set, as well as the 1998 One Game Playoff and the 2008 Division Clincher.
This set will be released on August 14, 2012.

Hey! Hey!
Dear Sir,
ReplyDeleteI would draw your attention to these screen grabs on the web address below. They do look genuine and crisp from am game I never see referenced as being around.
thanks

Those clips are from a WGN recording of the 8th, 9th and 10th inning of Maloney's no-hitter. It is available in the trading community.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads up.
Thanks GL. I couldn't find any other online evidence however this makes sense as I recall somewhere reading [perhaps in Çentre Field Shot] that WGN were in the habit of videotaping potential no-hitters. indeed i was able to find 3+ minutes of Don cardwell's from 1960 on the Chicago Tribune website plus clips of many other 1960's matches. The most interesting of which to me was a clearly color video [although washed out]clip from a 1962 match -so dated as they announced to the crowd that they were being watched on Telstar-and everybody waved!
Deletethanks

Speaking of pre-1975 games, MLB released Game 3 of the 1969 World Series on the Mets 50th Anniversary DVD Set.
ReplyDeleteThanks for pointing that out. I had actually thought it was just a re-release of Game 3 that was released in the last Mets DVD set. This now gives us 2 of the 5 games in that WS.
DeleteSo I guess the list of Pre-1976 games that have been released should be updated?
ReplyDeleteAre you saying this because of the 1969 Regular Season game or the World Series game?
DeleteYes, it should be updated. The blogger interface makes it a pain to try to edit that section. I like keeping it on the sidebar but it probably needs an overhaul anyways.
You should do a piece on "An Amazin Era" included in the Mets 50th Anniversary Collector's Edition DVD. Made in the late 80s the documentary has rare original broadcast clips, including Lindsey Nelson calling Duke Snider's walk-off homer at the Polo Grounds (6/7/63) and Buddy Harrelson being thrown out at home in the '73 World Series w/ the original NBC broadcast shot.
ReplyDeleteA link to a guy who collects a little of everything.
